How do we compare to other tutor agencies?
Tutor Light requires a one-time payment when you are ready to purchase a tutor`s contact details. We never take any ongoing commission from our tutors like other agencies do. This is because it leads to the tutor raising their hourly rate to you.
- ZERO sign up fees! You can register for free, browse, and communicate with our entire database of tutors.
- Payments can be made online through PayPal, even if you do not own a registered PayPal account.
- Some of our tutors also offer a discounted first lesson when you buy their details.
- Since 2005, Tutor Light has helped thousands of students match up with the right tutor.
Most tutoring agencies choose a tutor for you, based on who they think would suit you best. Tutor Light doesn`t work that way. We believe the parent and/or the student are the best judges. Only they will truly know compared to an agency assessor who is the right fit for them.
Most agencies make money from commissions, taking a cut of the tutor`s earnings. This has the effect of increased rates from the tutor so that they can recuperate lost income. They basically pass the increase along to the student. With scheduled lessons, that can really add up quickly. The hourly rates posted by tutors on Tutor Light are significantly lower that rates with other agencies, mainly because they have complete control over the rates they charge since we don`t take any payments from them.
In the table listed below, we illustrate a comparison of costs between Tutor Light and any other typical agency

2. Booking TutorsTutors who signed up after 1st April 2019 become part of our booking system, which means we collect between 15%-25% of the tutors rate (or £4.00 for tutors who rate falls below £16.00 per hour). We believe this rate is substantially lower than most other agencies. The benefits for tutors on our commission structure is as follows;
- You do not need to purchase their contact details, meaning there is no upfront fee.
- We manage the whole booking process, and collect payments for the tutor, so you do not need to worry about transferring money or bringing cash to your lessons.
- Scheduling lessons is easy to manage through Tutor Hunt, if you need to reschedule or cancel lessons it can easily be updated through our system, your tutor is automatically notified.
